Trying to decide between these two for DD; want her to have something she can take to Uni next year.
She is not into Gaming but needs basic web functions, Office etc. And reliability & portability.
They are the two I have narrowed it down to within budget, but now I can't decide which one, so any advice or personal reviews would help.

neither are overly impressive if i am honest although the Acer has a far superiour processor so if it has to be one of those two that would be the one i would get. this being said if you are willing to look at others, and also look at refurbs then im sure we could help find some other laptops for consideration (would need a budget thou)
please bare in mind that HP and Acer are not generally well though off for reliability and are generally in the bottom half of any reliability surveys carried outDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
For a decent basic laptop you don't have to be looking at the latest models.
At the moment Tesco have the following on their ebay site which looks quite good at only £269

You can also find Argos do similar deals on ebay and all come with a full guarantee0 -
Thanks. My budget is around £370, I realise I'm not going to get top spec for that but any other suggestions gratefully received.0

very good for the price and could get her this and something else as a bonus (tablet pc like the kindle fire at £130 and still be under your £370 budget)

all of the above will do everything the normal person needs such as internet and office as you has put, the more expensive ones are more powerful, but you are only looking at fractions of seconds differece between them.
one thing to really look at is a back up solution, nothign worse than her doing a 3000 word essay for her course and then her hard drive packing up before shes had time to print it off etc, an extrenal hard drive as a minimum for important documents and photos and music she would be upset to lose, £40 for a cheap oneDrop a brand challenge

This one looks pretty decent for the price and I would also agree about looking at argos. I picked up mine from there (HP Pavilion G6, can't remember the model number off the top of my head). I upped the memory to 8Gb for about £12 and it runs a dream.0
