Does JSA only pay for 6 weeks now?

Was talking to a friend who told me that she start claiming JSA about 2 months ago and was told JSA only pays her benefits for 6 weeks. Is this a new system that has come out?

She is in her mid 40s and single so not a school leaver etc
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

    No, that's not right. If she's entitled to contributions based it's 6 months but then she could be moved to income based dependant on savings. Something not right. Hth.

    Wouldn't the sanction apply from day one though? Unless she "forgot" to tell them? :D

    I dont think so but I may be wrong, I think they would pay until they find out what happened re work.

    I'm quite happy to be corrected though.

    It's twenty six weeks for contributory JSA, not six weeks ... maybe they've picked it up wrong ?
