.
So if Paypal have banned you, they are entitled to but they also probably have a damn good reason why they would turn away the income they get from allowing you to use their service.
They might well have a good reason for banning people, but surely the people they ban have the right to know why, especially when it appears from their end there is no reason. How can people defend themselves if they are not given the information requried. Sounds like Guilty until proven innocent, but without the information to defend yourself and prove your innocence. So Paypals way - or the highway - hardly the best customer service from an Amercian company where the customer is supposedly king!!0 -
It would be 'nice to know', but there are no contractual or legal obligations for Paypal to have to tell anyone the reasons. "We don't want your business" is more than enough, like it or lump it. I doubt it ruins their credibility that much either. There are tens of thousands of people complaining about Paypal one way or another all over the internet but its still a drop in the ocean of the millions of other customers who will continue to use them with no problems.Welshlassie wrote: »They might well have a good reason for banning people, but surely the people they ban have the right to know why, especially when it appears from their end there is no reason. After my last post, the response to my formal complaint was the same, i.e negative. I then sent a registered letter to PayPal Luxembourg making a subject access request under the Data Protection Act 1998 on 24/09/12. Here's the email I received today:

RE: Case reference xxxxx
Dear Mr. xxx xxx,
Thank you for your recent letter concerning our decision to cease out business relationship. Your complaint has been forwarded to the Executive Escalations department for review; please allow us to offer further explanation concerning your issue.
Mr. xxx, after a full review of your PayPal account registered with the email address xxx and the documents you have provided and have decided to remove the account limitation on your account.
Please be advised that as you are signing in from a country that is outside the UK, this may trigger our internal security systems to place a limitation on your account. This cannot be amended however a note will be left on your account to inform the reviewing agent of your situation.
Mr. xxx, please let us know should you still want a Data Access Report sent to you. Please be advised that these can take up to 30 days to process and all the information provided is what you already have access to in your Resolution Centre.
Should you have any questions relating to any of the above information please contact us directly at xxxx@paypal.co.uk.

I've emailed them back asking them do I have another PayPal account or not, share any info re this as I need to know if I've been a victim of identity theft or not. I've told them if they refuse then send me the data access report.
It just goes to show you can even get the Goliath's to back track if you know you're right, be patient and persistent and most importantly knowing what legal buttons to press. I was preparing to go to the Financial Ombudsman once I had the report as I had nothing to lose and it would have cost PayPal but not me. I was even thinking of sending a small claims court summons online as it would have been a lot of hassle for PayPal to send legal representation on the day and they would probably have back tracked before hand.0 -
OP, I'm pleased you got it sorted out
I had the opposite problem. My DH died and in order to close his account I needed to fax (email or post was not allowed) his death certificate, bank details, probate, passport and something else, can't remember, but there were 5 things altogether. This was more than any other company required. And I couldn't simply post proof. They wouldn't tell me by email if there was a balance in the account which I could understand but wouldn't write to me either.
Before probate arrived I discovered there was less than 10p in the account so I didn't bother to close it. The bank account linked to the account is closed anyway and I felt uncomfortable faxing the documents listed above

My mums account got suspended because my dodgy cousin attempted to send her some money into her account.
She knows he's dodgy and didn't want anything to do with it, and so rejected the transaction, although her account was suspended permanently just based on the fact that someone dodgy was trying to pay money into her account.
She was gutted. Nothing she could do about someone trying to put money in her account, lol.
Could happen to anyone, no matter how good YOU are.
If someone who has been upto no good tries to put money into your account, then YOUR account is as good as dead0
