Sold fake goods..how do I get my money back ?

Bought aftershave at £65 and turned up today....FAKE !!! I but this aftershave all the time so know what I am talking about.

Box flimsy poor quality.....upon opening bottle printing is no where near the same quality of a genuine bottle I currently have, sprayed it and smells nothing like the fragrance it should.

How do I go about getting my money back ? I paid through paypal, have emailed the seller and I am fuming.:mad::mad:

  • Did you buy through ebay or another website?

First of all contact the seller - they may be willing to deal with things directly before you get too irate.

If they dont respond promptly (remembering companies dont all work weekends) then raise a claim with PayPal. After a little while they'll rule in your favour, tell you to return it and upon providing proof its been returned they'll give you the money back

Through Ebay...have contacted them no response and now opened a case with Ebay.
  • sounds like you've done the right thing if you have opened an item not as described case....gives you an option of item being counterfeit/fake. You will more than likely be refunded, so don't need to worry too much at this moment in time. In some cases ebay don't require that the buyer returns the item and may award a refund with out making you return the item. This can happen if the seller doesn't respond to the case.

Please remember if you have to return the item for a refund then send it recorded delivery, just in case seller claims they never received it.
    Good luck

Actually, to cover yourself against loss if ebay tell you to return it I would recommend special delivery in this case. Recorded may not ever update past the 'your item is in transit' message and if that happens you would lose your ebay claim. As recorded only covers you up to £46, and I'm not sure it even covers fragrances- so you must make sure you have a back up way of recovering your money.

  • I know its an oldie, but are you allowed to send goods through the post when you know they are fake?
  • Are fragrances not a banned substance with royal mail? Do other couriers carry them? If not then sending it back is a bit of a problem!

Any perfumes or aftershaves that are non-flammable are permitted. Some flammable perfumes and aftershaves are permitted via our Royal Mail Tracked service – restrictions apply. Please see www.royalmail.com/tracked. Those that are flammable are prohibited via all other Royal Mail services.
  • Ah, thanks. well if it's fake I daresay it's not very flammable. Either that or pure rocket fuel. :rotfl:

  • Thanks for the info guy....the seller has requested i return it recorded delivery....and once i provide tracking details will refund the cost. Upon receipt of the goods they will refund the postage.

Should I actually be sending fake goods back though ???
  • yep i see what you mean , in case the seller resells it but if you don't send it back the seller probably wouldn't refund / and if you do send it back he'll be more likely to refund faster . Either way you need to make sure the seller pays for return postage ( if you do send it back) it's not fair you pay for it. As you have reported the seller for selling fakes ebay should bloke him from selling ( at least for a while / or untill he/ she sets up another account, which they aren't allowed to do but lets face it , it's clear this seller doesn't follow the rules).
God I hate eBay it's full of con merchants/ artists both buyers and sellers , it really spoils it for us normal folk who just wan to quite simply get what we pay for and get paid for the thing we sell , it's not asking too much from an online auction site is it?
