    Just a total stab in the dark... but could it be a fault with ACPI incorrectly causing the graphics card output to be "put to sleep"?

    Is ACPI enabled in the BIOS? Is there an option to "always enable" the display? Are the correct ACPI (motherboard) drivers and graphics drivers installed?

    I'm not using Windows at the moment, but I think there might be an ACPI-related option in Device Manager or on the screensaver or Display Properties settings applets...
