Has any one had any dealings with Diffraction Investments and Carbon Credits?

Options
Hi,

I got a call of some guy who said I had registered my interest in his company (possible as I have given out my contact details in the past).

The gist of the call is that he is offering me to invest in Carbon Credits. I haven't completely dismissed the idea yet and I am getting a call back from his superior as he put it next week for more information on the project they are involved in, what is involved and what I can expect to make.

Has anyone had any dealings with either Carbon credits or this company Diffraction investments either good or bad. At this point I just want as much information as possible going into this phone call.

The basic level investment is £2000 by the way so obviously careful consideration and extensive research is needed. Any information anyone can offer would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Ben, if you invest some time in looking at older posts in this section of MSE, you will see that everyone says that you should NEVER respond to these cold calls. The actual sector doesn't matter: land in the Amazon, ecological housing ... it is inadvisable to get involved with any of them in this way.

  • I should have combined my posts, but anyway although I have not seen Diffraction Investments mentioned on MSE, the following news applies to Carbon Credits in addition to timber, crops and overseas property:

"The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has published proposals to ban the promotion of Unregulated Collective Investment Schemes (UCIS) and similar products to the vast majority of retail investors in the UK. The proposed rules mean that, in the retail market, promotions will generally be restricted to sophisticated investors and high net worth individuals for whom the products are more likely to be suitable. • Hello PlutoinCapricorn

Sorry I am new to forums and so am yet to work out how to search old posts but the link you gave me to the old post and your advise has been extremely useful.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, considering the amount of money you may have just saved me I wish I could buy you a pint!
  • What the experts on here also say is that if these were such great investments, they would be snapped up by the major institutions etc. so why do they need to cold call members of the public? Have you heard of 'boiler rooms' and 'suckers lists'? It seems likely to me that the sophisticated investors and high net worth individuals would find all the weak points so are not being approached. It is a pity to have to rain on people's parades and dash their hopes but there are large numbers of sharks out there. I have seen some examples on TV of people who lost large amounts of money to these schemes.

There is a Forum Search on the Forum home page, and each board has its own Search This Forum on the top right inside the green band.

I hope that you will stay with MSE: it is full of useful information - but it can become addictive!
