Didn't Cancel Car Renewal

Help! I didn't 'offically' cancel my car insurance renewal with Direct Line, and just cancelled my direct debit.
They are now saying I owe them £65 as there is a brief period inbetween renewal date and them actually cancelling through being unable to collect my direct debit.
I had another policy with them for a different car, running at the same time. Again only cancelled direct debit as didn't want to renew and had no problems. This was within a month of each other.
Funny how one has a 'problem' and the other doesn't.
Should I pay the money?

If you bought elsewhere you can often get them to remove the charge by registering a complaint and sending proof of insurance elsewhere.
Obviously the main problem if that you now need to tell all of your insurers that you've had a policy cancelled and that will sky rocket your premiums and make u fairly untouchable by many0 -
You do owe it.
Did you renew elsewhere? If so send them proof and ask if they will waive the charge as you did have cover.
Cancelling a dd is not the way to terminate!0 -
Cancel the policy, Pay up and move on.
Lesson for next time, Cancelling payments does not cancel the original contract.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
