Crochet hooks aren't knitting needles. Before I flew I did phone and check and the security man I spoke to said he wasn't really happy about the rules being relaxed to allow crochet hooks. When I explained to him that a sharpened pencil or biro could be used as a weapon he didn't really have much to say :rotfl:0 -
I regularly travel by air and I have never yet had a problem with knitting needles. However I always use Bamboo needles. I don't think there will be any restrictions with crochet hooks. I also carry a small pair of folding scissors which has never caused a problem.
It isn't the airline who sets out the rules for or against. It is for the airport authority who are in charge of airport security to define what is allowed. BAA FAQs state -
Can I take a nail file on board?
Yes, providing it is not longer than 6cm.
Can I take nail scissors?
Yes, providing the blades are not longer than 6cm (measured from the fulcrum).
What about knitting needles?
Knitting needles are allowed.0 -
How helpful you all are - thank you! I do have a plastic hook i shall take and i think i'll risk it with some small scissors. I'll see if i can get some kids safety scissors.0
