If you had to slow rapidly you didnt find YOUR gap and adjust your speed to match that.

Ignore what the idiot behind is doing. The serious accident is more likely to come from the front or side when you least expect it. And leave you with no way of avoiding it.

I witnessed a bad one, Car overtook me at speed on a dual carriageway and lost control on the bend ahead. He spun through the central reservation clipping a few trees and hit a car coming the other way. 2 died and one still in a wheelchair 14 months or so later at the inquest.

to be fair, the traffic on the a50 approaching J24 can back-up past the castle donignton/sawley junction you will be joining it on. Other days can be clear. I would say just stick to M1 anf give yourself plenty of time. You will always be able to check how the traffic looks on the M1 as you go around the roundabour either at j25 in the mrning or j24 in the evening and divert via a50 if it is chokablock
