Running application on website

What is the purpose of the application, what does it do? If you need lots of client side things like mouse movement then Javascript can probably do it.

Most people wouldnt know what a firewall is if it burnt their !!!.

Personally, there is a strong element of "the lady doth protest too much" and by highlighting you aint going to steal their credit card numbers makes them concerned that you will when it otherwise wouldnt have crossed their mind!

Does the application actually have to be installed or can it just be run as an exe without installation? Certainly if it can run without installation and all those warning messages coming up then the better!

Are you going to be selling this app or just giving it away? At the end of the day if it is for sale and people have paid you money they are not likely to then not use it (at least once)!

You can point out to people that they should scan the butt off the exe file before executing it, only download direct from your site not others, etc. I use SUPER as an exe from eRightSoft (I have come to trust it), 1-4aRen (exe - trusted), notepad++ etc - be upfront about the risks, steps you have taken to eliminate them, but that it is crucial that people run their own up-to-date virus scanner against the file to be confident.

Yes, I'm sure Javascript can do it, but paddyrg (and me too) reckons it would be a heck of a lot of work to get it to do it.

The application is a sort of information system, based around PowerPoint style diagrams.

Selling it hopefully. Maybe an alternative would be to put advertising on it (it contains a web browser control).

Presumably the alternative you're suggesting to the user installing the exe is for him just to download it as a file? That wouldn't work unfortunately. There are a couple of dlls that need to be installed and a file type that needs to be registered, so I need a setup and installation package.
