With DLA there are two components; personal care and getting around (mobility). If you were awarded with the HIGHEST in getting around then you are eligible for motability - if you were to get a hired car or buy through motability your DLA would go to pay for it. Not sure if I am explaining this plainly, but someone here may do a better job!

I have my own car and have never used motability - you don't have to, it is an option you can take. Also if you are awarded the highest mobility rate then you will be exempt from paying car tax, and can get a blue badge.

Sorry if I am confusing you but someone else I'm sure will be along to help.

If you can, get someone from the CAB to help to fill in the DLA form too, they know the 'correct' way to complete the forms

The hrm component payment can be used to pay for the contract hire of a new vehicle. There are terms and conditions attached and it's not for everyone...http://www.motabilityonline.co.uk/site/current_prices/priceList/priceListDLAByVehicleDetails.jsp

You can also use your mobility to pay for a scooter thing - its what suits you best. Although I would say try to get an assesment before you pay anything.
