Big girls and wedding outfits - where do you get yours?

Grrr, my sister is getting married in May and I need a wedding outfit. Where do you go to get a wedding outfit? I'm a size 22, sometimes a 20.

I know all those do plus sizes, but not a lot of it is suitable for a wedding. What you are wearing sounds fine, though. I am 38 myself.

I think that you need to look around and see what you can find in the shops. It is not necessarily what you wear but how you wear it.

A simple summer dress with a hat/wrap/nice jewellery will look just as good as something specifically labelled as wedding wear. If you don't feel comfortable with the style then you won't look your best.
Its amazing what a hat and buttonhole do to an outfit.

Out of curiousity, I looked at the evans site and found an orange dress and a black print dress, both of which could be dressed up with the right accessories. They are the sort of things I would be looking at if I was going to a wedding.

My OH was a best man the day DD1 was due and I just had a plain maternity pinefore and a hat. I had my hair done specially and felt and looked a million dollars. I couldn't buy anything special as I didn't know whether I would be pregnant, breastfeeding or even there!

Have you got an outlet place anywhere near? You can get some great bargain and they always seem to have tiny sizes or bigger ones when I go. My sister is getting married in August so I am looking for myself and for my mum who doesn't go shopping much herself.

My sister was one of my wife's bridesmaid and she's not a 'small' woman. We got her dress from Monsoon, you can see it here.

Monsoon are fab for wedding outfits, and definitely stock larger sizes. They're a bit pricey (although not ridiculously so), but if you have a Monsoon outlet nearby, there are some great bargains to be had.

I work in a wedding shop and we often get larger ladies come in looking for outfits. We often suggest buying a dress which we sell to bridesmaids, they dont look like the typical bridesmaids dresses anymore so anyone can get away with wearing them for any occasion.

    We sell dresses from
    https://www.dessy.com
    and
    https://www.foreveryours.com

You can then order from a wedding shop have it made to your size and have bits added to it if you wish to.

I like the JD Williams group of companies...they have lots in larger sizes, and some lovely 'dressy' outfits too.
