Citi Financial PPI on Credit Card

I have a long protracted claim with Citi Regarding a credit card I had with them .

The claim was rejected over a year ago and I passed it on to the FOS.

I was contacted by an adjudicator who said that Citi Finance claim that the card was taken out in 1999 and was not covered by uk law.

My reply was to point out that Citi are quoting a card with the Associates that I had at that time and that account was transferred to them on takeover, this card had PPI and as yet I have not put in a claim for PPI.

During 2002 I was given the option to have a citi card and I signed up for one .

Citi card in their evidence to the FOS have sent a screen shot to them showing the date for my citi card application as 1999 !

One thing that troubles me is that the reference number for my associates card has been changed to the citi card reference number ? can they do this ?

Having pointed this out to the adjudicator I am being told to try a claim against the underwriters but a claim to Cumberland or Met Life is unlikely to succeed .

All paperwork I have for underwriters is with Ace so I will try this but I am not confident that I am being given the right advice.

Forgot to mention that my complaint with Citi is about PPI being sold unfairly .

So basically citi are saying the card you took out in 2002 is the one you took out in 1999?
Make it clear to the adjudicator, you are complaining about the card taken out in 2002, and give them the correct number.

As for the rest of your post, I'm not certain that you're asking advice about claiming for the 1999 card, or more info regarding the 2002 one.

My complaint was for 2002 card only and I have not put in a complaint about the Associates card I had in 1999 but perhaps I will now.

I sent my response back to the FOS including copies of letters sent from the Associated and Statements they all have the reference numbers to this card yet the screenshot sent by Citi has the 2002 Citi card number as being the account opened in 1999 and this is simply not true !!

Having pointed out this to the FOS they still do not accept the issue here and say that I will have to find further evidence ?

I have until 23rd September and it looks as if I will have to ask for a further escalation of the case .

What will happen is anyone's guess but I will not give up in this !!

Are these actually 2 separate cards or is it possible they just changed the card number from the associates one to a citi one, in which case, you did actually apply for it in 1999.

The only other thing you can do is have a look for your agreement. If you can't find it, then you can also ask them to provide account numbers that you paid this card off from.

You could obtain statements from before and after the date you claim you opened it to show no payments going to this card before 2002 if that makes sense, and separate statements showing payments to the 1999 card - that's assuming you can get the statements, and that the statements show a card number, or account number in the payment line.

If you can't funish proof then I'm afraid your case will fail.

Both separate accounts and after hearing on this forum and others people having requested SAR CITI have been ignoring requests or taken a slower than expected time to issue information requested and some not complete.

A SAR in this case would be futile even if Citi went back further than the six years as is the norm.

I have statements for both accounts and requested the agreement for the 2002 account but that was in 2011 and my request was ignored.

I meant bank statements. If you can show you paid monies towards the original card from 1999 onwards, and you didn't start paying for the 2002 one until 2002,this is an extra layer of proof.

Yes I have proof if payments also two credit file reports showing my
Associates account on my 2000 with Experian

In 2008 another report showing Citi card .

If Citi had converted the Associates card to theirs I would assume the number would be the same but I know this is not the case here.

An update to my saga going back some time with Citi Card .
During the CPP scheme for redress I was sent a CPP letter offering me the option to complain post 2005 in fact two letters , I enquired as to which banks these were with and was told Citi and Barclay's. I have had my redress not large amounts but welcome anyway.
I wrote to Citi cards about the pre 2005 CPP and had a letter back stating they would uphold the CIti card from 2002 -2005 but the Associates card from 1999 -2005 was having to be dealt with by another department.!!

So contrary to my long protracted issue that these accounts they stated were one and the same and they were backed by the FOS adjudicator and was turned down 2012 , I was given advice that no further effort would change the outcome.

I pointed this out to Citi in a letter that they had more or less covered up the fact these were separate accounts granted pre regulation for one of them , they replied two weeks later ..Our position still stands .....ten days letter we have looked into your case and we have now upheld it with extra interest they sent me a cheque last week 5.4k. .I am in shock !!! :T

They also state that I can now put my complaint forward for the Associates card too if I have statements proof of payment etc.

Just wondering why they have been allowed to misinform the FOS and I have no doubt they are not alone !!!
