Herb Planting - Should I plant them out now.

I am not a gardener in any way shape or form, I have been given some very well established herb plants, rosemary, thyme, and oregano in about 8" pots, is it too late to plant them out. my plan was to plant them in a 3ft diameter barrel in my front south facing garden

Plant them out now and enjoy your new hobby.
There's plenty of advice on the net - https://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/grow_your_own/expertgrowers_herbs.shtml#growing_herbs0 -
Yes, plant them now. The greater root freedom will encourage growth. I suspect you'd want some rubble in the bottom of the barrel, make sure it has drainage holes, and maybe use a loam based compost. Make sure it drains well. I would wonder about trying to protect the inside of the barrel from rot, given that the soil is damp. There may be some rot protectors you can apply, but be careful they are not toxic to plants.
