Have a look at these double sockets, which fit onto the back box for a single socket.

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=12849 (sorry, don't know how to do the short link bit)

Will save a good deal of work in replacing single back boxes with double etc. Simply turn off the electricity, remove the old single sockets and wire in these 'converta sockets'

Around here servicing costs between £50 and £100.

Cost for adding double sockets which i had done was £20 a shot. This included all materials.

£20 per socket seems cheap to me especially if the electrician is supply materials and cutting out the wall and replastering.
