advise about car in-pound and insurance issue

  • OK...

to be perfectly honest from the 1st phone call to them, I was under the impression that he was not insured. that 1st person i spoke to never sound to sure of him self either.

Then the letter came through and I was not sure if he was insured or not. when i fist got it I though it was to say about the called that it was quoted and cancelled etc. but it was to say he was cover from the 7th until the 27th some thing like that.

my brother had not driven the car, as far as i know as we live in different places. he did however text me that day to ask if he was insured which is where i went on to say that the cover note had arrived but things are a abit funny, that evening he was stopped.
  • So why did you permit him to drive?
  • Just spoke to the insurance, Never got to talk to a manager but the person was very helpful that I spoke to.

I explained what was going on with all the previous phone calls and need closure as to what was going to happen. they took all the information I was put on hold for some time as they were speckling to some one else.

the end result is that they do need to honor the cover note that was sent out. The person that done it should have cancelled the letter being sent out as a result of the phone call.

They are going to refund the cost of the in-pound charge that we paid last night, so we don't need to contact this other place that was going to do it any more. I just need to email them over the payment details and receipts ect from last night.

My brother now needs to got to the police station with the cover not and produce. and have the police call the insurance company if his name is still not showing up as every thing is now document on my file.

and request for the case to now be closed.

and that it really. never felt so much street and guilt in a long time, seem we have both got lucky today but this should be the end of the matter.

thank you every one for all your input and ill update as things develop. I have learned a valuable lesson over the last 3 days.

Also a bird pooed on my head a few hours ago does any one believe in luck.

Sorry why do I face 6-8 points?

im insured on the car its just my brother that was not at the time.

Permitting the vehicle to be driven by an uninsured driver. Carries the same penalties as driving uninsured yourself.

I have been driving 5 years and have no points at present. so it would just mean 6-8 points.
And unaffordable insurance renewal quotes. Any motoring offence that is insurance or DD related results in quotes that are so high it is cheaper to use a taxi.

Might be worth remembering that for the future.

    So to sum it up:

you phoned to get temp insurance
phone operative obliged, requested cover note sent out, requested payment
you can't afford it and tell them to cancel it
although cancelled, the letter instruction is not and a letter wrongly issued
you now allow him to progresses with using this cover note, knowing it was not valid

    Yet:
he gets out of being charged for 'driving without insurance'
insurance company agree to honour it, and pay your impound fees

I'm betting had he been involved in an accident the insurance company would have used the fact you cancelled it to get out of paying out - leaving some poor motorist out of pocket :(

There's insurance on the vehicle so they would pay out. Then go after the op/the brother for the money.

    Ye ?

If the guy driving it uninsured had an accident ops insurance would cover this? Would they not be able to turn around and say sorry, we don't insure him to drive to vehicle, not our problem
    ?

Even if that is the case though, op has still struck very lucky on this one!!

In relation to the ops car yes, they'd wash their hands.

For the 3rd party they'd pay.
