Replacing/repairing a double glazed window

Hiya,

My wife managed to put something through the internal layer of a double glazed window. The external layer is fine. Is that something that can be repaired or would the whole unit need replacing?

Any recommendations for companies to do the work? I'm aware that the double-glazing industry is full of high-pressure rip-off merchants so obviously want to avoid that!

Thanks

Pete

Just the glass unit can be replaced in most frames, but they can be awkward to remove. One of our double glazed windows was broken in a hail storm and a builder we know was able to order a new panel from a local glass merchant and fit it for us.

Firstly the glass isn't repairable. However you only need to replace the double glazed unit, not the whole window.

Secondly don't get a double glazing firm to do it - they will rip you off. Get a local glass merchants / glaziers to do it. Give them the rough measurements for a price and then get them to come and do a proper measurement. Average unit should cost you less than £100 supplied and fitted.
