Paypal Money Vanished!

Good morning all :)

Is anyone else having Paypal problems this morning? I paid for an item I won on Ebay last night, I paid for it at 7am this morning, after checkout I got an ebay screen saying my paypal payment would be processed shortly and I would receive an email confirming it, well just over 2 hours on and I have had no email, the item is showing as unpaid in my ebay and there is no record of the transaction on my paypal account yet the money HAS been taken from my card, any ideas?

  • Thought I would carry this post on, after many many years with paypal, many different experiences, many many things purchased on ebay this is something new that I have never come across before.

Cut a LONG story short, went to pay for a PSP yesterday for my sons birthday next week, paid by paypal as usual, went through the Ebay checkout process, as usual, confirmed the postage, logged into paypal, confirmed the payment source, confirmed the payment amount then pay now, usually you get a screen saying somthing along the lines of "Your payment has been processed by paypal bla bla bla"

This time I got a screen that looked identical but said "we are processing your payment for £xxx through paypal, you will receive an email shortly", now to be fair I have noticed this message before on the odd occasion but by the time I get back to my purchase list it is always marked as paid. Not this time, item not showing as paid and no email to confirm the payment but the money HAD been taken from my credit card, so I waited, and waited and waited a bit longer, after 6 hours and many posts to different forums, emails to paypal cs I decided I had better ring them and see what is going on.

I had one of the most frustrating conversation I have ever had with a right prat in Paypal cs who told me he could not see any transaction and I must have done something wrong or I am making it up! By this time my blood is starting to boil, I put the phone down and decided to have a live online chat with Ebay cs, I am sure this service is run by chatbots because whoever it was could understand the most basic of English, 2 hours with this chat person/thing and they tell me I need to speak to Paypal.

By this time I am starting to lose the will to live, nobody on any forum has replied to any of my posts so I conclude it is something that has happened to me and me alone, luckily the seller is an absolute star, I wanted to wait till this morning to see if anything updated over night and he agreed and was very supportive, nice guy :)

This morning still not paid, still no email and money gone from my card, so I nervously try and pay for the item again, this time it goes through fine with no problems, thank goodness now just have to hope it arrives in time.

But where the heck is my money gone then, I am hoping that as paypal have no trace of it they have no reason to try and claim the authorised funds from my credit card, so fingers crossed it "should" magically appear back on my card at some stage next week, if not I will have to speak to the credit card card company and ask them to get the money back from whatever black hole it has fell in to.

Honestly though, you could not make up these ridiculous problems, ahhhhhhhhhhh and breathe :)

It sounds similar to the problem I had last week

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4170857=

The only difference is that I had a paypal balance so nothing was showing as paid but obviously nothing was coming from my card as the balance would have covered it all.

It just sorted itself out after about 48 hours- but I was fuming with the 'help' I was getting from ebay.

  • Yeah it does sound similar, I am hoping that the money appears back on my card next week or you can guarantee the charge back will not go smoothly.

Paypal and Ebay customer service is shockingly bad, I do not know how such a big financial business gets away with some of their tricks here in the UK, it is absolutely ridiculous.

My problem has been a fault on their part between the cart communication from Ebay to Paypal, getting them to admit that though is another story, I did notice on their live status site:

    https://www.x.com/developers/paypal/documentation-tools/site-status

They have had some issues over the last few days so can only think I paid at the wrong time and got caught in a loop somewhere.

Oh well luckily the seller is a sensible sort and has been a star all the way, just need to hope and pray 1st class recorded delivery will get it here before Wednesday........
