Anyone got a BU-18 camera they wanna get rid of before I bite the bullet and buy a new one? Mines packed in.

What happened - natural causes, or was it stood on?

I much prefer the BU-13 but it is no longer available from the usual sources......

Get a new one as you'll have a warranty. They are prone to failure due to the thin coated cables. Not worth missing out on work or having a technical failure as they aren't too much on their own.

How does that work? It would be up to the supplier to agree to this first - always assuming the warranty was in force. Buying a replacement first is a bad move as it will rarely be refunded, just goods. Last price I had was £120, which to my mind is 'substantial'.

Anyone else finding it's still a bit quiet out there post Christmas? Or am I in the wrong place?

I don't really understand your point. However, our usual supplier is very good with warranty issues. Trust me, I've had extensive discussions with various parties about this. I think people who work FT tend to have a backup camera anyway.

It's insignificant compared with missing work.

My point is don't buy a used one as it's possibly well on it's way to failure (otherwise why is it being sold?). That doesn't apply to the recorder, which I would happily buy 2ndhand.

Anyone else been doing their tax return (and thinking they should have done it just a little bit earlier)? Luckily I had put my p60s in a safe place and kept nice self employed records so its not too bad. Just need to pay my tax and NI now (most of my income is non mystery shopping based)

I can't stand the BU13, every single one I have has failed with a couple of weeks. The BU18 is much more reliable.

Thanks but I don't have £130 to splash out on what will be a back up camera, mine s away with the very good supplier being fixed.

I was referring to your advice to purchase a replacement without waiting for the dealer to decide whether to replace it first. True, I have a variety of cam types and DVR's but not everyone wishes to spend £100+ for a spare - but that's their decision.

I'd still be interested in finding out he cause of the failure.....

Never let me down. Additionally the HDMI connector is more secure than the 2.5mm pin that often causes issues should it move, but as its no longer available to buy, something with a digital connector is overdue.
