Will this be covered under my warranty ?

Options
Hi , I bought a used citroen berlingo about 3 weeks ago all good but the balancing on the tyres is still slightly off as the steerring wheel vibrates a little at 70mph not always but the majority of the time , when I bought it he mentioned this problem and said the balancing would be done before I picked it up so it has either not been done or not properly.

I have contacted dealer and as they are quite small and to save me driving up there he offered to ring a tyre place near me to go and get this sorted today which is great but was just wondering if they discover the break pads and or discs need replacing as well will they cover this under warranty given I have only had the vehicle 3 weeks ( I have a feeling they will need replacing).

My problem when buying the car was he just said look "I am a well established garage been here 30 years if anything goes wrong within the 3 month warranty we will sort it ". So no specific warranty to see etc just on reciept that I have a 90 day warranty. He seems like a decent sort but just wanted to know in case I am put on the spot.

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

Warranty is irrelevant in such a short time of ownership. Under the SOGA seller would need to prove that the fault(s) did not exist when you bought it. From the sounds of it, they did.

Sellers responsibility to fix, not the warranty.

Avoid KwikFit. They will insist on examining your car and proclaim it needs discs, pads, an exhaust and four tyres - coincidentally pretty much everything they sell.

Balancing needs to be done at a tyre place. Most regular garages and dealerships don't have the balancing machine needed, so it makes sense that the dealer would just send you directly to a local one.

It's a 15 minute job and depending on where you go (and where in the country you are) it costs between £30 and £60.

It's more hassle for the both of you if he has you return the car to him and then takes it to the tyre place.

If he chooses the tyre place for you, make a note of where he sends you, they're probably actually a decent place rather than a bunch of muppets like Kwik Fit.
  • Thanks all , I drove up there myself all done & no mention of pads etc needing doing but I am booking it in for a service with the garage I have used for the past 8 years for my old car and if it is mentioned then I will contact the dealer. Tyres wise I normally use the same local tyre place anyway would never use kwikfit.

To be honest, pads and discs are wear and tear items, so if they're low, but not illegal, it's unlikely to be covered.
