Paypal new ruling?

Hi there, received an email from Paypal yesterday stating they were implementing a holding procedure on any payments I receive as they consider me to be a risk as I have not received sufficient feedback as a seller! I have been using Ebay since 2007 as a buyer and sell things now and then when I have a turnout. My buyer feedback is 98%, but they are saying I dont have sufficient feedback as a seller so pose more of a risk to potential buyers!! I have never had a dispute as a buyer or seller always send my items by recorded delivery and always get good feedback. Phoned them up to query this email but they would nt budge although they said they would review it again at the end of October. Really annoyed just dont know whether it is worth continuing. After all I cant sell what I have nt got and not every buyer wants to leave feedback. Any advice would be appreciated.

98% for a very small seller is quite poor maybe it is that alone that has got your funds held?

Cam I suggest you go and look at your expanded seller dashboard and make sure there is nothing else lurking there, are you still showing as a standa seller?

98% means you have at least 2 negs for every hundred feedback, which is a lot - compared to the average which is 99%. I know it might not sound bad but there might have been something recently that triggered a problem. You need to look at your feedback - without being able to see it here we can't assist. It just doesn't sound 'good', so we need to know what negs you have and when you got them.

  • Thanks for the response. I think I might have got my feedback percentage wrong its showing as 100 per cent over last 12 months with no negative feedback. I thought the 98 next to blue star next to name was feedback percentage -you can tell that I dont do this very often cant you.?! Not sure where I find my expanded seller dashboard. Having said that I have never had negative feedback as buyer or seller just checked all the way back to 2007! Thanks for your comments will check back later.

Oh - no, that means you have 98 feedback ratings. That makes more sense, but less sense when it comes to restrictions, although monies can still be held as and when eBay/Paypal judge there to be a risk.

What are you trying to sell? Some items trigger this a lot more than others do.

Just Ebay doing what Ebay does best - messing up the accounts of decent Ebayers - while turning a blind eye to the crappy ones and scammers.

Ebay is run by crackpots i'm afraid - and there is nothing you can do. Ebay tells users to use feedback as a guide - but don't take a blind bit of notice of it themselves.

A few weeks ago some of my items were removed because "these are normally items people make fakes of".

Who gives a **** what other people do - mine are real, i have 100% feedback, receipts, no low DSR's and ive been on Ebay 13 years!!!!!

If you dislike them so much, why hang around?

Back to the OP, it isn't clear, have you sold recently? When was the last time you sold on Ebay?

Do you want to sell on Ebay now? Presumably the hold on your account is the standard 21 days or positive feedback hold?

From what I can gather Ebay are telling you that given that you haven't sold for some time they will be treating your account as a new seller if you start to sell again.

    .

Cos theres no-one else. Thats like asking why i stick with my lousey corrupt bank - no choice (they are all the same) - or my local water company (no choice).

Doesn't mean you like them. All companies that treat customers like crap, don't deserve their custom. Ebay in particular - cos they force everone else to behave the opposite of the way they do themeselves. They should practice what they preach.

1 out of 5 stars Ebay!!!!!

I agree completely with this, selling on Ebay is great, when it all goes to plan and paypal behave, but when it goes wrong.....................

Ebay and Paypals biggest problem is they both have no decent competition, I have been praying for years that would change and would love to see "Easy Auctions" or the "Virgin Marketplace" but sadly nobody seems to want to try and break the monopoly they have, when you get caught on the wrong side of them things go from bad to extremely bad very very quickly most of the time without any justification.

Oh well I can dream :)

  • Hi there
thanks for all your replies. I rang Paypal this morning and apparently because I only sell intermittently that is why my account has been flagged up! I buy more than sell and even though my feedback is 100% because I have nt sold things for a while they are keeping an eye on my account. It will be reviewed again in october so if I get (more) positive feedback and confirmed delivery they might change their decision. So I will just have to grin and bare it. Thanks for all your comments regards PETTINGCATS

If this is just the usual 21 day hold then there is nothing to worry about at all and , as above, you are just being treated as any other new seller would be. Get some selling history, get some good positive feedback and the hold will eventually be dropped. Just make sure you get your items shipped promptly and leave feedback for your buyers to encourage them to leave it back for you
