Help Please Working Tax Credits

Last year our income was £16,880, bercause my husband had 2 jobs, one was much better paid than the other.
This year our earnings combined were £11,325 and we sent our payslips to the tax credits office a few weeks ago.
We were receiving £176 per week child tax credits.
My eldest (of 5) daughters has recently given up college, and we let them know that too.

Last Friday they wrote to us, telling us they had overpaid us and I am not getting any tax credits this week, and £100 for the next 3 weeks, then £144. That is just child tax credits.

We presumed we didn't get Working families tax credits last year because our wage was £16880. They took off the full amount of £3980 because of our income, so we got none. So now our income is £5,555 less will we get this £3980 in working tax credits and will we get back pay for last year?

How do they work out these tax credits, especially the working tax one, what is the threshold income for claiming them.

Please help, I'm going out of my mind with worry, if we get less money this year, and we're earning much less, our family will go under.

they sent us a new award letter but the income hadn't changed from £16,880.

What is the level of income you earn before they start deducting from your allocated amounts?

Sorry, my amounts are a little out, i've just got the letter out.

Our earnings for the year are £10357.80 and £933 = £11,290.80

They have us down for £16338.00

    That's a difference of £5047.20

Our working tax credit elements = £3993.10

Our Child tax credit elements = £8974.40

Should we have been getting all of the money from both elements?
