The interesting thing next time will be how people react to the Lib Dems. Personally I think they will be decimated but the Tories and their wealthy backers may still win.

    No chance. Read the polls.

It was not a prediction, but a statement of fact. The Thatcher Government was very unpopular in her first term. In 1981 she was one of the most unpopular prime ministers ever and her party was as low as 30% in polls with Labour on 40%. She still won in 1983.

All that is needed for Cameron to form a majority government is the backing of enough wealthy organisations, including the press, that convince those who are suffering a little that there is no alternative to the continuing medicine. It happened in 1983.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

All that is needed for Cameron is to let Argentina invade the Falkland Islands and then send our aircraft carrier complete with Harriers to the South Atlantic to free the Falkland Islanders....Oh hang on a minute.......

It was the Falklands War that turned around Thatcher's government in time for the 1983 general election.

Without the Falklands war she probably would have remained one of the most unpopular leaders ever.
  • unlike NO other govt during my 53 years this one scares me witless, its unelected with policies NO one voted for,its using the poor and disadvantaged to pay for the mistakes of the rich and powerful and worst of all it is actually incompetant in a way never seen before

You mean you slept through the Bliar years?

This sort of partisan claptrap makes a mockery of any pretence to adult debate.

Yes, this government is pretty poor. But it you really are 53, as you claim, then you will have seen some pretty poor governments of both flavours (Heath's, Major's, Callaghan's and Wilson's to name just four) and this one is no worse than they were.

    I never said otherwise.

The Falklands was caused by a bad decision by her Government to cut our presence on the Islands and led to a great loss of life to re-take it and cover up her Government's embarassment. But she won the subsequent election because the people believed in the image of a great leader standing up to Argentina rather than one who made defence cuts that led to a costly war. Who do you think created the winning image?

Mmm, I find it difficult to square the aspiration for "adult debate" with an unwillingness to correctly spell Mr Blair's name:)

I consider it a public duty to remind readers that the man is an unprincipled scoundrel who should be in the dock, not trousering £1 million an hour from corrupt Arab despots.

It's a particularly enjoyable duty when it gets up the noses of the legion of 'New Labour's' braindead zombie supporters.

To think that had WMD been found in the Iraqi desert he would have been a highly respected stateman and you would have been denied this pleasure!

Iraq isn't even the main reason I consider him to be a grasping, venal toad.
