A few years ago, my oh was given the chance to do the Elvis/Graceland/memphis thing.
He worried that it was a lot of money but I said to him, get yourself gone, you may never get another chance to see it.

He did go and had a fabulous time and just a few months later he lost most of his sight and was deemed for other reasons not to be able to fly. So you can imagine how glad he was that he did go when he had the chance.

Grab it with both hands and go.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Is your Mum worried about the cost? She seems to be making excuses not to go.
Can you lose some weight before you go?
Not too sure why people still celebrate 21, 18 is coming of age now not 21.
  • New York all the way! It has so much to offer London does also but if you have been there loads then like you say it will not be as special.

There is a lot of walking to do but as other people have said make use of the subway. I stayed at the Peninsula the location was fantastic right opp Madison Square Gardens and Penn Station it was ok but not to the standard I am used to. Take lots of spending money not so much for eating and drinking but for the shopping! Taxi from JFK is around $55 into Manhatten.

Hope you have a good time whichever you choose!

You would have a great time. When do you plan on going?

You have options of walking, bus, taxi or subway. I prefer the bus.

On a recent trip the hotel we stayed at loaned one of our party a wheelchair as they cannot walk far. The city isnt completely wheelchair friendly (mainly pavements can be an issue) However I did the pushing and it was fine, best of both world as I prefer walking. Of course easier if the weather is good. But we went out rain or shine and ponchos came in very handy :)
Maybe that could be an option for a few hours?

All things NYC lots of great advice and trip reviews.

I have been 4 times so far and still get excited especially when I see the skyline driving from the airport :)

I believe quite a few people celebrate birthdays every year, not just the one. I think if you use the search facility on here, you could find some threads about it.

    HTH.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

And not to mention because there are things like drinking/going in bars that you can not do in NYC until you are 21.

The Statue of Liberty is great if you get there earlier enough you can get a ticket to go up inside.

OP doesn't say when their birthday is, but SOL has been closed for refurbishment/security upgrades since the end of last year.

I appreciate that, but they shouldn't always expect Mum to pay for it.............
