- no government department has sold any information to any company
New procedures came into being only recently in 2012. The DWP gives anonomised / coded lists direct to the big six suppliers and any of the others if they are scheme contributors, that in turn is translated into a postcode, if both the postcode and door number is a customer then they are passported in benefit terms.
This is a good thing for the groups of individuals concerned. Without having to even ask their energy supplier and go through the process of proving that they have a right to be in the 'core group' of 'special rights' consumers they [the energy suppliers] are automatically informed by the DWP.
- all energy companies have special tariff's for people who have poor health, are elderly, or have a disability
- this has been posted many times on the disability board of MSE
- in all casess an individual should be notified of their 'special rights'
- for example telling you that you are entitled to be on the Priority Services Register and / or / offered extra support
- British Gas for example has the 'Essentials Tariff' whilst Scottish Power has the ' Fresh Start Tariff'
- the criteria is common to all suppliers
The core group criteria is :
in receipt of Cold Weather payments
or have a household income below £16,190 and are elderly or in receipt of means tested eligible benefit
or have a household income below £16,190 and have a disability or long term illness
or have a household income of below £16,190 and are spending more than 10% on fuel for adequate heating (usually 21 degrees for the main living area)
pauliboo, I don't know your circumstances but from what you write here you claimed 3 years ago from a company who continue to 'spam' you or indeed may have sold your info to others who now spam you. It will certainly not be the case that :
- the DWP sold your info
- the major suppliers who get the anonomised lists sold your infoDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
