been to barclays - 2% charge. Phoned HSBC - 1% charge. anybody knows cheaper/free?

Depositing them where? A bit more information would be good - however if it is a currency account all banks will charge for deposits and withdrawals.0

Into a dollar account, chances are there'll be a charge whatever you do.
Into a sterling account, they'll just convert the dollars to sterling at the prevailing rate (most likely a tourist rate) and deposit the sterling equivalent without a charge.urs sinserly,
