ALDI half price peat free compost 99p 25L
I was at my local Aldi on Wednesday and they had a huge pallet of the 25L peat free multipurpose compost with a sign saying reduced from £1.99 to 99p.
After a quick check via Google I found it on the Aldi website so presume national.
Not had chance to check quality and not bought before but will check at weekend. Bags are a nice size for carrying.
Bought 8 to help enrich the soil at my new allotment but may go back for more if any good.

Thank you royg, will pop and see if there's any at out Aldi. Was just going to post to ask where is the best place to get compost. I usually buy at Wilkinsons but they don't have any just now.0

This the stuff that gets poor reviews? Poor quality and lots of twigs?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

They didn't have any at my local Aldi, but managed to get some in Poundstretcher, hopefully it will be ok.0

Finally got a chance to use some of this stuff and although it was a bit twiggy it seemed generally ok.
Wouldn't use for seedlings perhaps but fine for mixing with the soil for planting out my strawberries.0 -
Wickes do peat free compost, 4 bags for £13 I think, each bag is 60L, so that is £3.25 for 60L, a bit more than Aldi. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it is only for improving soil, so I'm not too fussy.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

I'm always a little wary of cheap compost, although I do like a bargain. It may help to enquire where it comes from as it could be being bought in bulk from Councils' green waste recycling departments where everybody has dumped their gardening waste. You never know whether this includes insecticides and weedkillers that have been put on lawns and the cuttings have susbequently sent to the Council's green waste dump. It's perhaps worth only treating part of your allotment in case there are residues of these toxins in the compost - then at least not the whole of your plot will be affected.0

I got a 25l bag of Tescos multi purpose compost today in my local Store for 20p. Again it's twiggy as all the rest I have had this year but for that price I might go back from some more.Save £12k in 25 No 49
