National Insurance Interview

Hi All
Can someone please advise me, my partner has to go for a National insurance interview for a N.I.No, when they attend can i go along with them to the interview? she is very worried about the interview and gets very nervous and we wanted to know if i could go in with her? I phoned the jobcentre to be told oh we dont really know we are only a call centre, my partner is not allowed a N.I.No but as i'm getting benefit they have to check they are not allowed one to keep paying me my benefits and add them to my claim, but once her further leave to remain has been granted she can then apply for one, if someone has already been to this interview any advise they could offer would be great as she would only like me to go in with her as support, i'm sure anyone would be allowed to take a friend or partner with you but if anyone knows for sure it would be really helpfull.
Thank you

Yes you should be allowed to accompany your partner to the interview. Does she speak good english? If not you could explain you need to interpret for them. Otherwise explain about her getting nervous they should be fine with it. I've conducted these interviews in the past and having a partner, friend etc sit on in the interview was never a problem.

    Me too.

You'll be someone for her to talk to while they're photocopying documents.:)
  • Alas a friend/partner shouldn't be allowed to interpret at such agency appointments as an independent interpreter should be supplied to ensure no conflicts of interest. Language Line (phone service) is used a lot these days.

    Probably not, but they do.

They use Big Word at these interviews which I believe is similar.
