Building control

We have made an offer on a bungalow which has been converted to a 5 bedroom house by the owner who is a builder. This was completed about a year or so ago. My husband wants to get a full building survey on it but I was wondering if the Building Control Regulations that the builder had to adhere to would cover the same sort of things that a building survey would cover? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I suppose a full buildings survey would be overkill if the house has undergone major refurbishment.
To go into the loft, your vendor would need to prove that the existing foundations were either strong enough, or improve them.
If there are new windows, electrical installations and a new boiler (I assume there would be to cope with the added demand) then your vendor should provide you with seperate certificates for these if they were fitted by suitably qualified people, otherwise these will be covered by building regs too.
You could try calling Building Control at the council and see if they will go through exactly what was inspected and apart from their completion certificate, what other certificates you should be looking for.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
