Everyone has given great advice so far, just to add that I also completed my BSc at Leeds Met (place gained through Clearing) and loved it :-D & it gave me an appetite for further study!0

Quick update. Hall of residence secured at Sugarwell Court. He moves in on Sunday his course starts Monday. Very generous grandmother has agreed to meet his expenses until his funding comes through. Have enough bedding, towels etc here to do him for a while. I am very lucky because my son is the most unmaterialistic person I know. My stock cupboard has been raided and God is in his Heaven. Thanks again to all you wonderful angels.0

Make a cake or bake some brownies or something, makes the "meet and greet" of other students less awkward.0

As someone who is about to start university having gone through clearing - I just want to say WELL DONE! Clearing was the most stressful experience of my life, it was hell!
So first thing's first. Loan is the way to go - chances are you'll qualify for bursary too. Depending what course he's doing, there's a high chance that his university will actually offer hardship bursaries too, which you don't have to pay back, so definitely look into that.
Furthermore, the uni might offer hardship packages, which involves things like canned food, shower gel, shampoos, toothpaste, pasta, etc, which is all very useful, so definitely look around for stuff like that!
I'd suggest getting an NUS card, as it can get you a lot of free things!Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0 -
Just wanted to say "Congratulations and very well done to your son". DD has been at Uni for the last year and absolutely loves it.0

Last update. Dropped DS off yesterday. His room is great. Its a relief to have him in halls. He brought a football and guitar as a way of making friends and a box of brownies (thanks Lokolo for the tip). Shattered today but its all been worth it. Thanks again to everyone.0
