This was explained to me by a window cleaner I knew who was saying one of the benefits of the pole system they now used means no ladders. As the house holder you are responsible for people working on your property (this legislation) - if you haven't complied you could be negligent.
He speaketh with slightly forked tongue. The Working At Height Regs are to be followed by the person / company doing the working. He's chosen to interpret the word "employer" as meaning householder but I think thats stretching it a bit and doubt such has been tested yet. In reality its all about him avoiding lumping ladders about, doing a half arsed job thats nowhere as good as a leather in half the time and charging you more to use "modern technology".

    Cheers

I'd be very happy to agree with both of you though - I did take it with a big pinch of salt though the guy wasn't touting for business as he mainly did commercial properties and residential properties where ladders weren't practical due to height.

It also wouldn't surprise me if a lawyers could also twist legislation to mean the above in a compensation case. It wouldn't put me off hiring anyone regardless - its not as if you're likely to want to hire a guy you thought was going to fall and anything else if just an accident anyway.

Good idea. You may even come across one who's done a NEBOSH Diploma. ;)
