Bathstore lousy after sales service.

Recently bought a load of stuff from Bathstore for a refit. The wrong sized radiator arrived and was quickly replaced. However, the plumber said he felt the shower tray was too shallow and would likely leak with water soon lapping on the edge of the cubicle. I called them up expecting to exchange for a deeper tray but they don't do one. So I thought I'd use their 14 day returns policy and get a refund.

Store refused the return because the tray, though still covered in its cellophane wrapping, was not in the original cardboard box, which had been recycled. I offered to put it another cardboard box, but they said only the original would be acceptable. Sounds like nonsense to get out of a refund to me.

Rang customer service line and pointed out that brochure (p264 in small print!) says "original packing where possible" and was told it was at store's discretion. Asked if I could return to manufacturer... no because they're in China.

So I'm out of pocket £80 with a useless shower tray in perfect condition and a very poor impression of Bathstore's aftersales service. I won't be using them again and would caution others to proceed with caution!

If they don't do a deeper tray and they specialise in bathrooms I can't imagine how the tray could possibly be too shallow without trying it first. If it was fitted and turned out to be to shallow and not fit for purpose you would have a case for a refund.

...and a shower cubicle which needed replacing! More trouble than it's worth for an £80 tray refund. It was the view of the builder who does many bathroom installations and had to replace one such shallow tray in the past when it proved inadequate. Bathstore did not quibble about that side of things which made me think they might have had previous experience of the issue.
