car insurance and NCD ordeal

Hi,
I had 4 years NCD and a policy with Zurich connect in 2010 and then had to cancel the policy as I was moving abroad for work. Now I am back I have got a new policy and my new insurance says that it is OK that I have been out of the country for 2 years but they need proof that I had 4 years no claims.

I have aksed Zurich to confirm the information and they have said ' you were only insured with us for 4 months and as a result we are unable to provide you with a copy of your no claims discount. However, if necessary, I can provide you with a letter confirming your driving history with us during this period.'

I understand that I didnt get further NCD with zurich but surely they can confirm that I didnt make nay claims whilst I was with them therefore protecting my 4 years NCD.

If I have a letter from them confirming I didnt claim and then the renewal letter from my previous insurer confirming the 4 years would this be sifficient evidence of my NCD for my new insurer?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Louise

2 years is usually the limit for most insurers so even if you get proof of 4 years no claims then new insurers may not count it anyway.

Some may offer am introductory discount.

Think the CO-OP was mentioned for accepting 3 years?

Send them the letter and proof of no claims and see what they say.

I think Zurich should issue you with proof of NCB dated when you cancelled the policy.

If dates are tight this could be the difference between keeping your NCB or not, say you started the Zurich policy in June 2010 then the NCB from your previous insurer would have been dated June 2010 so is now more than two years old and (generally) no longer valid however the NCB that Zurich should have issued when you cancelled the policy would have been dated October 2010 and so would still be valid.
