Credit Card Account not closed last year !

in Credit cards
I am unsure what to do and am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience ? Also I am not sure if I am posting this on the right board. Also this is a bit of a long post sorry.
Last year I paid off the remaining balance on my Egg Card and asked for the account to be closed. After several emails, I was assured the account would be closed down.
Anyways today I decided to have a nosy at some of the different credit card deals around and decided to reapply for an Egg Card and I noted on the screen it said you are eligible if you have not held a card in the past 365 days (I 1st requested the account be closed in February 2004 and was informed it was closed in March 2004). To my surprise I was told I couldn't apply/proceed as I am already a customer and it directed me to log in and view my account.
Luckily I remembered my old log in details (the ones I was told would no longer work) and there it was my egg card account !
I simply am unsure what I should do. I've sent an email to egg customer services, but am wondering where I stand now.
I'd closed my credit card account last year as I had planned to buy a house and wanted to reduce the amount of credit I held. Obviously this Egg Account has remained open but dormant and may have had an effect on subsequent credit decisions as I declared I didn't have any credit cards as I believed this to be true, but a credit search would have yielded a different result.

I think it depends on what you actually want to do. I'd imagine Egg will be apologetic, but without direct proof as to how you have lost out I'm not sure that they'd compensate you at all. If you still want the Egg c/c deal then I'd push them to match it and maybe up it slightly for the (hard to quantify) impact it might have had on your credit.
Not much help I now, but I reckon it's the most likely 'good' outcome..0 -
They did this to me as well. The account was actually shown as closed on my credit report but Egg admin had not deleted it from their online system. It took two tries to get them to finally delete it too.0

I will firstly see if it is simply a case of it not being deleted from their online system, but am sure that when I'd tried to log in last year it told me I couldn't.
I will then see if they will offer to match the deal that I was interested in as that was the only reason I was on the site having a look at things0 -
If it is one year on you could qualify for their anniversary offer of 0% for 5 months? (depends on whether this was available when you originally signed up for the card).
I had a similar situation with Morgan Stanley - had cancelled two years ago and it showed as such on their system but still appeared on my credit report in January - I phoned them and they apologised - it now is shown as closed from January. Not sure whether I need to get them to amend this to show the true date it was closed, as it may mean I cannot qualify for the new customer deals etc and will have had an affect on credit applications when looking at available credit.

managed to sort things out, and have the option to be accepted as a new customer, so am quite pleased0
