Want to get this magazine offer 23 magazines for £1". ... So I am definately not going to enter my bank account number and sort code on any webpage for security reasons no matter how secure the sight is. So I am opting for the phone method. But when I call the number they don't know about the offer and say they can only enter an offer that comes with a discount code. But the websight does not have a discount code...So I have called and eventually spoke to someone who looked on the websight and say the offer then said that they will put me through to someone who can enter the offer without the code. This person entered the offer for to 1 week later get a letter sayting that that they were to charge me £14!. So in the mean time I complained to the websight and they emailed me back a discount code. I tried this code and the customer services says that this code does not work.So I am bagging my head against the brick wall.. The other option is to complete the application form and send off my bank details by post. Should I just do this and stop chasing the impossible for trying to get a discount code for a telephone order?http://www.magazinesubscriptionsipc.com/ipc/subs/subsorder.asp?title=XHG&promcode=i030

Whats wrong with just entering your details on the webpage ?0

Security... I am about OK with entering my credit card details over the internet but I would never enter my bank account details. If somehow someone else get hold of my bank account then I don't want to spend time changing all that when if they get hold of my credit card then I can just cancel my card.... I also never want my bank account details stored anywhere on my computer where someone would access.. I don't do internet banking for that reason.“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson

But what do you think is going to happen to your bank account details when you phone them ? I guess they are going to put them into a computer and you have no control over the security of that machine.
I believe in being careful but .....0 -
I think you are being too cautious too.
The Account Name, Sort Code and Account number are on every cheque you write too.
The Site is Secure as denoted by the HTTPS inthe address bar.
There will always be dangers and it is good to be a little cautious but I wouldn't go overboard..0 -

Off topic a bit, but you are far more likely to have your details stolen over the phone than over the web. On the phone you give a real person your details - they have everything they need to sell them on or commit fraud themselves. Via the web, no-one sees your details and the number people with access to the database containing them will be very small indeed, and easily traceable in case of any problem.
WRT to the banking, you don't need to store your details on the pc - just enter them afresh each time you visit the site.0 -
also, sending the dd by post for this offer will likely not work either - the people entering the post details will have access to the same system as the phone people, and will have the same problems.0

I'm going to use the postal method. I know the person entering the data can see & sell me details but with the internet you don't know who is between you and their computer.....“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson

If there is a padlock symbol then you know it is using a secure socket layer so the data is encrypted and even if intercepted would be meaningless whereas with the post anyone can simply open up the envelope and look at it. It is inherently more secure in this case than either post or phone. Ditching the web option to go for either phone or post isn't really logical as you are turning to a LESS secure method."She is quite the oddball. Actually doing a bit of searching I can't find a single case of details being stolen over a TSL or SSL connection whereas postal theft is quite prevalent."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

What about spywear (spelling???) products that can read your key stokes and send them off somewhere. As I type my account number then this would be recorded...............?“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson
