buying to let?

hi all,
i am a student who is interested in starting to buy and let, and was wondering if there is any tips on going through with the investment.

    my tips are.... it may not be an "investment" not in the short term anyway. the idea is the rent will cover ALL costs plus a pit more, i.e. voids,maintenance etc, and hope the value goes up. if so, why not? the biggest problem as i see it is finding a property that will fit the above.

    My advice would be to concentrate on your studies for now - house prices are very high at the moment and there are a lot of risks in the global economy too - potentially a bad combination.

    A good education is a far better investment than a house. Look at the salaries people earn in the City - the vast majority are graduates with good degrees.

    Second question: what do you want from the investment? What kind of timescales do you plan to own anything you buy?
