Any experience of John Lewis, the department stores kitchens?

I'm in the market for a new kitchen, I like john Lewis reputation of customer service so wonder what their kitchens are like. They charge £50, refundable if you buy, for planning, I'm reluctant to do that without knowing the rough cost of the kitchen as it may be well beyond my budget. Anyone any idea of what they cost, please?

JL cost depending on room size, worktop material would tend to start around the 10 - 15k mark (you wouldnt get much for 10 mind)
There are many independants who use the same kitchens and would easily knock a few grand off there costing as with JL you pay for it buying from them0 -

Whatever JL can do, you can get cheaper elsewhere with exactly the same quality. that includes a planning service.
£50...pfft.
I believe the low end John Lewis stuff is from Symphony and the high end Mereway. You can obviously look at other mereway fitters for a comparison or there are plenty of comparable kitchens from German manufacturers. The symphony kitchens I saw didn't look any different to the top end stuff from Wickes or probably howdens. I'd say most of the wow factor comes from things like a nice worktop rather than cheap laminate and good tiles etc.
£50 would put me off too though I've been to an independent who wanted more than that. I'm sure their advise would be good but obviously you end up paying for it. I found comments from people on this board very helpful when doing our kitchen and am glad we didn't pay someone for it.0
