moving from district heating to gas

i am at the moment on an old fashioned district heating system. this means i pay my local council a set rate every month and my heating is piped through from a coal house on the estate. i pay the same amount every month regardless of how much i do or dont use, even in summer. i pay £126 a month for a 4 bedroomed seni.

now the council are putting in individual boilers and gas. i am happy about this as the amount of times the boiler house has broken down leaving us with no heating or hot water for days on end (last year at xmas!) but i am worried about how much i will be paying for my gas. im on a budget. my husband works he gets paid and every penny goes out on DD. i like it this way. we get our weekly amount in CB and TC and we live off that. basicly what i am saying is thati can afford £126 a month and not a penny more. my new supplier will be british gas and i use my heating for about 2 hours am and 3 hours pm most of the year. winter maybe a tad more. i know its difficult to guess but could anyone give me an idea of what i will be paying monthly ish? i cant even use comparison sites as district heating is not provided by any of the companies.

also on a slightly different thread but still related i guess, does anyone feel that i should be able to get some sort of decorating allowance from the council for the work done? all the raidiators will be smaller meaning i will have to repaint every wall with a raidiator on it, plus i have been told i have to take up the hallway carpet which is glued down, and one of my kitchen cupboards need moving which will leave a huge white mark on my cream wall :(

any advice would be very gratefully recieved x

Obviously it will depend on how much energy you use and the supplier/tariff you eventually choose (you'll be free to switch even if the council initially specifies a supplier/tariff), and you will have access to the meter to keep an eye on your consumption, but hopefully the cost will be less than £126 per month :)

As an example, Ofgem say the average household consumption is 16500kWh of gas and 3300kWh of electricity, and you can usually buy this for about £1000 - £1100 per year by choosing a competitive tariff. £126 per month is £1512 per year.
