paying for a CBR check

is it normal to be asked to pay £50 for a CBR check (think it was CBR) on application, the info for the job said even before interview the money had to be paid, it said something about them following the governments recommendations that the person had to pay not the business?
seems a bit much to have to pay, without even knowing if you have the job/
It was a job for a disability support worker.

The problem with these checks is that if you change jobs, your new employer can refuse to accept an existing check & insist on a fresh check (I know because my dad does a lot of voluntary work and he has had to get numerous checks done, that said all the organisations did pay for the checks themselves).
If your unemployed wont the DWP pay ?,0 -
at £50 a time I doubt it, but thanks for the info.0

is it normal to be asked to pay £50 for a CBR check (think it was CBR) (CRB - subjects being asked to pay anything varies on employment circumstances so it's difficult to say what is "normal") on application, the info for the job said even before interview the money had to be paid (this starts sounding like the beginning of a scam), it said something about them following the governments recommendations that the person had to pay not the business (the government certainly does not recommend that - so telling lies to back up their scam?)?

Though there are scams out there, it is not uncommon for agency workers to be asked to pay for their CRB. This can often be taken from their first pay once they begin working. (For example I would have to pay if I went back to teaching through an agency.)0 -
Jobcentre no longer fund crb as too many jobs now require a check. Most agencies ask for employee to pay for the check but that is normally refunded after a few months.0

Agencies may well ask, but most charities that I and colleagues work for as organisations fund the enhanced CRB check0

When I had a CRB done before lucky for me the agency paid for it, but when my husband had his done he had to pay when he had just started his job, but they did refund him it back, but he had to wait a month, but I think some dont even do that now. I think they last 3yrs.is it normal to be asked to pay £50 for a CBR check (think it was CBR) on application, the info for the job said even before interview the money had to be paid, it said something about them following the governments recommendations that the person had to pay not the business?

What they dont take into consideration is though, if a person has been out of work for some time they dont have that kind of money to lay out, I mean the rates for dole now is not much as it is. When I claimed ages ago I think it was something like £60pw so to have to pay out £50 you cant do.0

thank you, you have just answered a question for me that was concerning me the other day of another subject actually.Jobcentre no longer fund crb as too many jobs now require a check. Most agencies ask for employee to pay for the check but that is normally refunded after a few months.
I joined a gym and they messed up my direct deb payments, I found out that a lot of them are from the job centre on a 3wk trial thing. and they are working with money and accounts, now this is a concern, because they are there for a short time, not only can they not be trained properly or remain at the job, that means that they are not CRB checked either and dealing with peoples account information.
Whether the person be from another job or job centre or abroad, if they are not checked then how would people know if they are trust worthy?
I am not being biased to anyone dont get me wrong here, as I have been in that same situation with signing on and where they force people into things for short periods of which is no help to anyone. Some time back I had to work in a charity shop when I had no employment for a while and that was totally out of my field of what work I do as well. Come to think of it, they never gave me a CRB check back then either and I was working with cash as well. But they said I had to work there so many hours a day for five days.
I could have had a criminal record or anything for all they could have known. I mean I dont! but they dont know that do they.0 -
Have they got access to membership info though? I doubt it if only there for three weeks.
Also I know you don't mean it but just because someone is on the dole doesn't mean they are more likely to be a thief than the employee that has worked there for 5 years.
Also are these kind of checks done on this type of job?
Seems someone is making a killing on these CRB checks
I wouldn't mind paying if I knew I had the job, but to pay upfront is taking the !!!!.0 -
Some companies have the forms in their application pack these days so if you get a job offer they are one step ahead of the game. A CRB only proves you have either been caught or haven't. For me a CRB is a worthless piece of paper and is making someone very rich.0
