Accused of scratching a car!
Options
I would first like to state that this was a false accusation, it simply wasn't me that did it!
I was in Tesco today and parked in a parent & child spot and upon my return a woman stepped out of the BMW located next to me and said I had scratched her husbands car and that he had gone into Tesco to speak to customer services! There was very clearly a scrape on his back left bumper and a scratch on the paint leaving blue paint behind (unfortunately a similar colour to my car).
He returned with a member of staff and was pointing at that my back right bumper had quite a severe scrape on it (this was done by some numpty at work many months ago and had mud on it). I explained to him that it wasn't me and that if he thought about it, I would have had to reverse into him whilst turning at a very sharp 90 degree angle and magically not hitting the car to my left. So a pretty impossible feat. Tesco staff member said nothing and just walked away. I also asked him to look at the front of my car as if I had hit him then that would be the most logical place to look. I also pointed out that I have reverse parking sensors too.
I then drove away. Now my hubby thinks I should have exchanged details with him, but I don't see why this was necessary as I didn't do it. But, im now wondering if the other driver is going to try and claim against me for something I didn't do!

Sounds like someone trying it on to get a scrape fixed. I would make sure the 'numpty' at work remembers hitting your car in case the other person tries making a claim. You may also want to check for CCTV covering that part of the car park. These days there seem to be too many people out there trying to get damaged repaired by anyone they can set up.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

If Tesco has CCTV that should sort the dispute out for you, although it may not secure the apology you deserve.I then drove away. Chances are they've only just noticed the scratch at that point and put two and two together and made 5.
We'd a customer leave a car in for some warranty work and i noticed a scuff on the front bumper but didnt think anything of it.
Of course when the customer came back then they accused our mechanic of having done it. By their attitude i didnt get the impression they were trying to get one over, but truly believed we'd dont it. The truth was they'd maybe had it done earlier in the week or something but only spotted it when it was with us.0 -

no cctv at tesco here either,
My brother had his L200 damaged in a tesco car park and it must have been a large vehicle that hit him as it dented the tailgate and bumper, whoever did it drove of and tesco didnt want to know they just quoted the vehicles parked at owners risk line.
I still dont know how the person didnt see it as its bright red, as the damage was quite bad they would have known that they had hit it.0 -

Chances are the scratch was already there and they'd been looking for a similar blue car to park next to, just to blame them (or in this case you).
