february half term break in uk

Hope someone can please recommend a uk holiday for us for feb 2013 half term. We have only been in uk for about 18 months and therefore dont know what to choose. They all look good from brochures.....2 adults and 3 kids (5, 2, 14 months). More interested in places with plenty of childrens entertainment, heated pool and hottub would be nice. Accommodation 4 star or better. between moving countries and having a baby we havent had much time to spoil ourselves, so this is our chance. We are not bold enough to venture abroad with loads of young kiddies. We are based in yorkshire. holiday has to be 4-7 days, flexible.
thanks in advance.

you don't say what the budget it - but if money is not a problem then Centre Parcs would be my preffered option for February as the caravan sites are not usually open until Easter time.

There is a centre parcs near Nottingham or in Lake District so one of those would not be too far to travel.

other than that February is a difficult one, as not many of the "activity" holiday camps are open....

Butlins is the other option i suppose - it depends on what exactly you want from a holiday.....

Let us know what type of accommodation, what types of activities you would like to do and perhaps people can help further?

  • Thanks for the replies. I dont have a set budget, if its good I am willing to splash out.

With regards to activities I would like plenty of kids entertainment so that my girls are not bored. At the same time I want the adults to have something to do...so looking for something with entertainment for the young and old alike. I know I am a bit vague but it is because I dont have anything specific in mind except an enjoyable typical family holiday, a bit on the luxurious spectrum...

    thanks again
  • well id say butlins and haven are good for both. im in east anglia so not sure whats local to you?

i know some havens seem to have better entertainment than others. butlins is brilliant for the kids, mine are 5 and 2yrs & we usually go to skegness as thats closest to us. we like the fact that the fair rides and the rides in the bob the builder part are all free.

as the night goes on the entertainment usually changes to suit the adults more.

we usually try and get the higher range caravan (if your at haven) or apartment (at butlins) as you can get central heating in the bathroom and bedrooms at haven which is a must for the cold nights, or take a portable heater like a halogen one.

If you were considering Butlins and wanted to make it a bit more luxurious, you could try the Butlins at Bognor and stay at the Ocean Hotel, it's really nice, still all the great things about Butlins for the kids but the hotel has a snow room, sauna, pool, beauty treatments, etc., there is disco lights and music in the lifts, the bedrooms have changing mood lights above the bed, coloured lighting in the bath and lots of extra little touches that make it just bit more nicer!

We always stay in the hotels in the colder months and both the Shoreline & Ocean are great, the Ocean just has that bit more in the way for adults whilst keeping the kids happy too!

  • We're off to Bognor Butlins with the kids for the weekend tomorrow; unfortunately I couldn't convince the OH to go for either Shoreline or Ocean :(
  • Must have some idea of budget. Some people on a budget go on an all expenses cruise or 1st class to disneyland with all the options ticked.

I had a play on the disney booking site ticking all the extra's and it came to £37,000.

That would be some holiday lol. But if you have a hire car you want a proper US one and convertible dont you.

Feb in the UK, How about a skiiing holiday?

  • Oh god, I wouldnt spend that kind of money. £2000 would be my max for a uk hol for a family of 6.
Bognor looks fantastic but it is quite a track for me with kiddies. skiing is not my kind of thing.

I would recommend Ribby Hall near Blackpool. It is great for young kids, i'v been for the last 3 years with my now 5 year old and we took his 4 year old cousin this summer and we all had a great time. The accommodation is either pine lodges or cottages which will be much warmer in Feb than a caravan. The pine lodges have hot tubs. There is also a spa which opened last year, reviews are great but have not experienced it myself.
