Carers Allowance backdated???

we made a claim for dla in feb 06 and were refused then after reconsideration was awarded lrc...all this time my husband has looked after me and has not been working so we have struggled quite alot.
what wanted to know is after all this time would i be able to put in for carers allowance (backdated) as we are awaiting a appeal decision and are not yet aware whether we will receive a higher award for care allowance.
if i was awarded would it be okay to make a backdated claim?....or would the dwp question me?

If you recieve Middle Rate Care (DLA) or above, then Carers Allowance can be backdated to the date of the DLA award (assuming you claim it as soon as the award has been granted).
But, unless they grant Middle Rate from the date of the original claim (which I doubt they will after all this time), you cannot claim it for the time you recieved lower rate.
