VW Camper Van ('Buy and sell' or Hire??)

Planning a little trip for some friends and me, thought we'd go a bit hippie and drive a VW Camper van round for a couple weeks this summer and am looking into the possibilities at the moment.
I see 2 options
i) Buy a VW camper (around 3K-4K, anybody?) and then sell it a few weeks later for the same price (OVNO) - need to find one with a month or two with Tax/MOT of course then need to insure for 3 weeks or so
ii) Hire one for around £500 p/w and go from there.
Anybody got any comments or suggestions for the above?
Cheers

Your best bet is to go for hire. Buying one for 3-4k won,t get u much & it may be just aload of trouble + insuring same for just "wks would be expensive0

I am looking to buy one at the moment, agree with the above, 3-4k will just get you a dog, I should know Ive seen enough. A good one if you are looking for the Bay type will cost you at least 6k. Hiring may be the way forward.0

Thanks guys. I agee with you both. If we buy and say the clutch goes then we are stuck with a worthless lump of metal and 4k down.

have you ever slept in a VW camper?
If not, and if there are more than 2 of you, just check out how comfy the sleeping is going to be, for the person on the double bed at the bottom it's ok but if there are there bunks then oh my god, are you in for a time trying to sleep in one of them, especially in the summer, 3 inches from the roof on a narrow little hammock type thing  personally I would try to get something a tad bigger0 -
