  • Would you be willing to pay them 20% if you hadn't benefited from the 10% introductory rate?

If you would, let them know - AND remove the reference to their name (and the POC's name) in this thread. I think the only posts which mention the name are yours. (By the way you can amend thread titles as well as the main text.)

Under what authority would I do that?

    Your own?

[Sorry, I don't know that I understand your question.]

Conceivably because you have implied /stated unsubtantiated illegal activity by a legitimate company and have named names, which means they could possibly sue you??? THat would appear to be a really good reason for doing as you were advised, wouldn't it?

Because generally, if you want to work with a company, !!!!!ing about them on the net is not the way to go about it.

If you don't want to work with them, then it doesn't matter.

The OP has already had her contract with the agency terminated by them.

    Given, that:
A quick google has also turned up the interesting fact that "standard commission" charged by modelling agencies ranges between 25% and 37%.

    And, that:
Well, I didn't pay any upfront fee.

I was paid for all the work that I did, and they got their 10% of all the work they found me.

In total, I was hired for 9 photoshoots over the short period i was signed to them. So they had no difficulty in finding me work.

It seems to me that you got quite a good deal. But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. It's your choice whether this good thing comes to a complete end, or comes to an end in its current format but continues with a commission rate of 20% (which, given Marybelle's point above, still seems quite a decent rate to be honest).

As others have suggested though, if you are even slightly interested in retaining a working relationship with this organisation, I'd make your posts here a bit more anonymous. Slating them on the internet isn't really doing you any favours.

But is there really nothing I can do?

You can either continue as you are and pay them 20% of your earnings, or refuse future jobs with them.

You have had 9 jobs with this agency - presumabley, this is 9 jobs that you would not have got without their services ?

You mention working for other agencies/companies - have you had any other jobs from other sources? (if so, do you pay a commission for this, how much?).

Personally, 80% of something is better than 100% of nothing and if I were you I would keep working and paying them their comission.

I assume that all modelling jobs go through agencies rather than individuals direct, and as such some commission payment will always be payable/deducted?

Ps - assuming that your "real name" is Jenny Schuma then the above may be academic, as you may not be offered future work with this agency .....

Unless you've posted this to gain publicity, I really would change your username.
