Removing eye make up

Comments

  • Thanks for your replies. I tend to use face wipes a lot due to being tired at night but would find using a separate eye make up remover too would maybe defeat the object of an all in one wipe but the wipes just don't do it for me with the eye make up, though they do take off my face make up.

My friend uses the Clinique one and says its good. As I often use other Clinique products I like to go a bit cheaper on the eye make up remover.

Clinique will take it all off.

Lancome is good too. Gets all makeup off (even stage makeup) quickly and gently.

  • I second the olive oil suggestion, although I use jojoba oil (big bottle for £10 in Holland & Barrett, great for cleansing oily skin as chemically it is close to human sebum and tricks the skin into producing less oil). Clinique will take makeup off but also nearly takes my skin off! I find Clinique very harsh and not suitable for sensitive eyes.
  • I use Micellar water by La Roche Posay at the moment and it'll take off most make-up except for the last remnants of my most stubborn waterproof mascara (Heroine make) and for that I'll use a bit of Take the Day Off.

  • Hi,

I never find the wipes really take off make-up properly for me, so I tend to use the water based eye-make up removers most of the time I do tend to soak the pad a bit and let it sit on my eyes for a few seconds as I find this means I don't need to rub much to get the mascara off- I do have a thing about getting it all off at night though anytime I haven't spent enough time getting all make up off my skin feels awful!

With really hard to budge mascara I dip a cotton bud in remover and run this over my lashes too and that gets the last stubborn bits off!

Another Take the Day Off fan - only buy it on offer, in the USA or in duty free.

    It lasts ages.

I've used No. 7 eye make-up remover for years and found it shifts the toughest of waterproof mascaras:

I put a good amount of it on a piece of cotton wool, and hold it on my eye for a few seconds before I rub (letting it soak in a bit!). A few goes and it clears my make-up, without excessive rubbing.

I then use No. 7 make-up remover wipes for the rest of my face:

I did once run out of eye make-up remover and tried to use the face wipes on my eyes. Ouchie!! They're too dry for eyes and you have to rub too hard.

Never rub your eyes to get make up off!
I use the Boots own brand cucumber gel eye make up remover - put a generous dab on a cotton pad and then (sounds stupid lol) dab it between your eyes to remove most of the excess. Hold the pad onto your eye for a few seconds, then wipe downwards - hold it on your eye for a few seconds again, then wipe upwards (remember that when you apply mascara, you apply it from the underneath, so alot of it will still be there! Repeat if you need to.

I wear full make up (fully lined eyes, shadow and mascara) everyday and this works for me - the trick is to hold the remover on your eye for a minute to let it do its work.

I've always found face wipes pretty rubbish and a lot of them irritate my skin. I use Simple eye make-up remover which works great for me.
    Kate.
  • I just use baby wipes, but that probably is due to having a baby that I now own a huge amount of baby wipes. They do the job in removing my make-up pretty well and don't have to be big brand wipes.
