Comments on Roof Coatings Required

We have been pestered by people knocking at our door to do roof coatings. They never give you a price but want to make an appointment for a surveyor (salesman) to come and see you and they always insist that your wife is present.

This smells of the old double glazing scams where they start at £10K and then work their way down to £3K after 4 hours in your house and phone calls to their manager to extend special offers etc. provided you sign now!

Are there any reputable companies that do coatings with a legitimate guarantee as we actually do need our roof overhauled. Any comments would be appreciated.

Axel

A roof overhaul? Painting it a nice colour is pointless if it is needing proper work done on it. Save your money and spend it on getting it overhauled properly, not just cosmetically. If your roof fails then everything under it suffers.

Apologies, I gave the wrong inpression with my last post and overhaul was the wrong word.

The roof is perfectly sound and is only about 15 years old with no leaks or problems so only cosmetic work is required. The concrete roof tile have faded in some areas and some of them have gradualy lost the granular coating from the surfcae and the grey concrete is showing through.

Any thoughts on a coating or even a DIY clean down and painting with say a masonary paint.

Then you don't need to do anything to it.

  • Please take the advice of others on here and leave the roof alone. If the aesthetics really bother you I would suggest that you get a local roofer in to wire brush em ad use a sealent on them. Personally I think brand new roofs look awful and the age adds to character! Alternatively you could put a copper strip along the ridge, this will kill the fungus etc.
