I was once kept on hold to British Gas for around 75 minutes - I had to stay on hold as they were threatening to obtain a court order to enter my house! Not only was it annoying in the first place as I could have done without wasting the time, but all the time I was spending money on the call, there was an annoying message telling me ways to save money by insulating my house etc.
When I finally got through, I said that I expected to be reimbursed for the phone call and she tried to get me to sign up to the BG phone plan!! I told her in no uncertain words that this was NOT the time to try and sell to me and if she had any sense she would just reimburse me and let me get on with my evening!

Aren't top ups exempt from clubcard (etc) points? (since the merchant only earns say 40p commission on a £10 topup*)

    * figures based on a leaflet I have here for Bank of Scotland Business Banking, aimed at small businesses who want to accept cards & do mobile top ups also :)

No you do get them, infact they do promotions sometimes giving double Tesco points on top ups. You can also use a Clubcard Plus which gives double clubcard points on any transaction

Still failing to see where 'fraud' comes into this discussion?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • The 'fraud' that comes into this discussion is apparently businesses are making money from these phone calls and apparently the longer they leave you hanging on the more they get. Its about time we put a stop to it and stood up for our rights. Why if they have not enough staff to answer the telephone do they not let the phone ring and ring instead of us listening to inane music and having to pay for it. Or why don't they employ enough staff!!

So again I ask, where is the fraud?

It is wrong, I wholly agree. But not fraud ...

If the phone calls were free, they would just put up charges elsewhere to compensate. If you want more staff waiting for your call, that costs more money to implement, which you will pay for (or the callcentre will be offshored). It's a business, and businesses make money..

Can't you topup by using the payg phone itself with a credit card no., which costs nothing to call?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

lloyds are really beginning to p1ss me of with this, when they changed to their new automatic procedure things where really quick and u wud get answered within a couple minutes at the very tops. This time has now got alot longer and can take as much as 10 minutes to get through which is now slower than before the automated system

As for it being Orange I'd use your feet and go elsewhere. Their Customer services can be rubbish even if you get through. My husband as been given wrong advice on two separate occasions. Then when he asked after the phone shown on the website as free to existing customers, he was told he could not have it, he decided to move to Vodafone.

Great service form Vodafone so far.............

whilst these lines are fraustrating surely you could have gone to your local supermarket or even corner shop that has pay point to purchase a top up voucher - it is a lovely day out and a walk to the corner shop would be nice,
