off to combe haven at the end of the month for 5 days, and would like a day in brighton. (only 30 ish miles away)
the train may be an option, but wont know more on that until we get down there. so at the moment going by car is the main option.
but as we intend too spend the day there, we dont want too spend a fortune on car parking.
so can anyone recommend somewhere to park that wont cost the earth or even a park and ride scheme?

Parking in the marina carpark is free, but it's miles from the town.

If you're in Combe Haven, then the drive to Brighton, once parked, is about 75-90 minutes depending on traffic. The distance is short, but the A259 is a VERY slow road. Parking is very expensive in central Brighton.
If you are looking at the train, then you have several options. The nearest train station to Combe is West St Leonards, but the train to Brighton takes about 1hr20 from there. Alternatively, you can drive for about 5 minutes and go to St Leonards Warrior Square train station for a quicker train which takes just over an hour. About £13 return on train from both stations (just looked at Redspottedhanky) and easy to find onroad parking around both stations.
I'd train it every time - parking in Brighton stresses me out!
Brighton is a beautiful city, make sure you get to the Lanes.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

We got the Volks electric railway from Brighton Marina to the Pier, which was a nice journey, when we parked at the Marina but we walked back along the beach which took about 25 minutes. The council run Marina multi storey car park at the Marina was free but when I checked the website recently I think it says 4 hours maximum parking now, but don't know how strict they are at enforcing this.0
