avoiding 0845 for tax credit overpayment line

i am trying to call HMRC to either discuss or pay an overpayment of tax credits. Have tried to search for an alternative number for 08453661203. Have been given an 0345 number that would be fine but was told while waiting -by the automated message- that this number was only for discussing overpayment and that to pay i would need to use the 0845 number. Gave up as had been waiting a while
Will probably just use one-size fits all 0845 number tomorrow reluctantly (with my mobile)
Anyone successfully found and used a 01/02/02 number for the "section 29 debt management and banking" division 08453661203
thanks in advance!

According to saynoto0870, "0191 225 1800" should do the trick.0

I really cannot understand why any of these departments use 0845 numbers. The seem to be disliked by many people, including myself. I don't think they provide any benefit, as in income, for the call receiver.
Phone systems and call costs have changed but no one administering these call centres seem to keep up with it.0 -
thanks guys...i should of mentioned i tried saynoto0870 the listed 0191 2251800 unfortunately goes through to the wrong dept and they are unable to transfer only provide the 0845 number
...guess 0845 will have to do this time

0345 300 3900
Calling us on an 0345 number will cost you the same as a call to a standard landline number starting with 01 and 02."Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same" - Oscar Wilde0 -

unfortunately the 0345 number is only to discuss - to make any form of payment it seems only the 0845 number is avaiable at the moment.
...we don't have a landline so i rely on my mobile hence the aim to avoid 0845 numbers
....i managed to get through today to both the 0345 no. (which i believe it covered in my mobile inclusive minutes) and then the 0845 number to set up a payment. To be fair they were quick to answer and deal with my call, and compared to little difference in the cost of a stamp i am happy to e able to resolve over the phone.
thanks for the feedback guysNo Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30
