Desperately need carpets cleaned. Has anybody any experience of the Rug Doctor machines you get in shops such as B and Q and Morrisons?
or any reccommendations of carpet cleaning macines would be appreciated. Would like to attempt myself rather than pay hundreds for somebody else to do it.

Great, thank you. I would like to have them cleaned as selling up shortly and probably wouldn't buy one. Will try and borrow one or try this rug doctor, but looks a bit pricey.
Thanks0 -
You don't need to spend all that much but I do think hiring one is dead money.
I've had one of these for a couple of years and it's worth it's weight in gold
This is the first one I found on Google so you might find a cheaper one

Warning: I am a professional carpet cleaner.
I hate the jobs I get from time to time correcting the mess left behind after amateur use of the slug doctor! They do not rinse out properly and have no power compared to the pump and vacuums (yes plural) in my machine. Check out the length of hose on your hire machine, compared with the 100 feet or more I can use, two or even three floors above the site of the machine, which I do not have to move around.
You talk of paying "hundred"s, my average job is about £95, brought down by the low charges for smallish spot removals, Very rarely is a domestic job over £200, depending on the size of the house and soiling involved.
Could I suggest you ate least get a quote for a professional job, yo might be surprised!

I would second Warwicktiger... though I am in no way a professional cleaner (or even an unprofessional one!!)
I tried hiring a carpet cleaner and it was a waste of money. For £60 I got my lounge, stairs and landings done and they came up nearly as good as new.... and they were filthy (see comment above about my not even being a unprofessional cleaner!!)

When I left my rented flat I hired a Kärcher carpet cleaner to clean the beige (horrible choice!) carpets. It was about £20 for the weekend and worked very well, but it was quite time consuming and hard work.Solar install June 2022, Bath

I recently hired a rug doctor machine at a cost of £41 for 24 hours. This included 2 lt of shampoo a traffic lane spray and a pet odour spray. After using the machine my carpets were lovely and clean and smelt fresh. However, the next day they absolutely stank. It was a mixture of rotten egg, fousty, smelly dishcloth smell. I used the rug doctor on my loung/diner and my H/S/L (my daughter also used the same machine in her house on her lounge/diner and hers stank the next day too). I telephoned rug doctor who said they took these complaints very seriously. She told me to go back to the shop I hired it from who would give me a full refund of my £41 and 3 bottles of deodouriser for myself and my daughter. She said the machine would be recalled to see if there was a problem with it. I didn't hold out much hope, as they could easily not admit liability. However, within 3 days I had a call saying the machine was found to be faulty and that they would send an independant assessor round to look at the carpets who would see if they could be restored or needed replacing. This was done within 2 days. I have heard from rugdoctor this morning who have told me that they will replace my carpets and will send me a voucher to spend at their list of approved carpet shops to the value of £1346. I am very very impressed! My faith in customer loyalty and service has been restored. My daughter is awaiting her carpets to be inspected and hopefully should get hers replaced too. So if you do use the rug doctor and have this problem, they will sort it out for you. Well done Rug Doctor0
